I Hope This Is What You Had In Mind

The bottom line is that our new governor is doing pretty much what he said he was going to do, putting the interests of Florida business above all else.

Is that what the supporters of Rick Scott had in mind? The canonical conservative talking point of a sacred idolatry: business.

Howard Troxler’s column on Governor Scott’s budget proposal came as no surprise.  I was waiting for his spin, and it’s mostly just a list of the problems Floridians face.

And by that I mean that Republicans will have to face:

They’re the ones who have to give the news to the parents of Florida schoolchildren, to the unemployed, to rape victims and abused children and the disabled losing their services, to fired prison guards.

This isn’t a battle with social services and compassionate fiscal policy on the one side, against the whole of capitalism on the other.  We dug ourselves into this hole, as a state.  We all watched as the Florida government grew, spent more and taxed less.

Will the state Republicans be held accountable? I doubt it.
