Toy Story Set The Stage For Modern Kids Flicks

Newsweek posits that Toy Story 1 and 2 set the stage for the swath of successful Pixar films and those that copied their model like Fantastic Mr. Fox and Where the Wild Things Are.  Ultimately, Newsweek’s critique is trumpeting the Disney films of old, they cite Pinocchio, Bambi and The Lion King.

What’s changed is an assumption of emotional maturity, whether its loss and grief in Finding Nemo or Up, or loneliness and materialism in Wall-E, the formula for children’s entertainment has changed.

The kids these movies are made for are having something demanded of them.  I don’t see a problem with that.

Apparently, Newsweek does.
