Crist Vetos More USF Construction

As part of Crist’s veto rampage approaching the budget, he cut funding for universities and pet projects in local districts.

The biggest single budget loser from Crist’s budget cuts: the University of South Florida, which lost $46 million for a new polytechnic campus and pharmacy program in Lakeland championed by Senate budget chief JD Alexander, R-Lake Wales.

As a recent USF graduate, and someone who lives within a mile of the Tampa campus to only witness a marathon of construction in 4 years, this comes as a necessary venture.  USF has a construction problem, a problem like those noble Tampans who need 30 bucks for bus fare to Brandon.

The business model at the university seems to be to spend more to make more.  Some of the largest USF projects have been student housing – Freshman are compelled to spend their first year in student housing at state universities with or without financial aid from the state.

In my four years at USF Tampa, there always were at least three major construction sites.
